Gambling undermines good stewardship. Christians are to put their trust in God for their financial resources, not in blind fate such as gambling. Ultimately, all things belong to God and we are his stewards (Psalm 24:1). We are to handle his resources wisely and gratefully. I do not think God wants his money put to the gambler’s wheel. It seems clear from the nature of life that gambling is sometimes a sin and sometimes not. Therefore, we should examine the Word of God for the biblical principles that would govern gambling. The overarching principle of life is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Ecclesiastes 5:10 - He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this [is] also vanity. 1 Timothy 6:9 - But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and [into] many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. Many people find any excuse they can give for what is wrong, but just like Satan deceived Eve he will deceive many by saying, did God really say you can’t do that? Quotes “Gambling is the child of avarice, the brother of iniquity, and the father of mischief.” – George Washington “Gambling is a sickness, a disease, an addiction, an insanity, and is always a loser in the long run.” There are a couple of quotes from the bible that those who think God would want gambling to be abolished are happy to use to their advantage. One is to “stay away from the love of money” – but you could use that to abolish any businesses that try and make their owners and members a tasty profit. Question: "Is gambling a sin? What does the Bible say about gambling?" Answer: The Bible does not specifically condemn gambling, betting, or the lottery.The Bible does warn us, however, to stay away from the love of money (1 Timothy 6:10; Hebrews 13:5). The Bible makes no significant mention of gambling. Yet, it does offer a number of guiding principles that reveal how God feels about gambling. The basic nature of gambling —winning money at the expense of others— is at odds with the Bible’s warning to “guard against every sort of greed.” Gambling is, in fact, fueled by greed. So what does the Bible say about gambling? It all depends upon your perspective and interpretation. The Bible doesn't directly address gambling and such silence provides the fertile ground for Gambling - Is it a sin? The subject of gambling is multi-faceted and something that can divide Christians. On one side of the fence, there are those who argue that it is only a game and, like anything else (eating, drinking, etc.), it is acceptable as long as it does not become controlling or addicting. Many Christians wonder if gambling is a sin and what the Bible has to say about it. While casinos, lotteries, and other of today's get rich quick games aren't specifically mentioned within the Bible, God has still warned against the temptation. Most often when people gamble it is because they become addicted to the love of money.
